課程概述

Intercultural Performance has been a widely contested ideas. Is it a form of cultural exchange that benefits both the source culture and the target culture, or is it a kind of cultural appropriation which reflected the unequal power relations between the East and the West? This seminar course explores some of these debates and examines theories of intercultural performance, transcultration, and globalization in relation to actual performance practices. 

課程目標
This course aims to familiarize the students with the intercultural theory. It also intends to help students develop a critical eye to look at intercultural productions. The course seeks to ask: How are these forms of performance transmitted across time and space, and how are they received in their respective locations? How do they transform and acquire different meanings in the new context? 
課程要求
Students are expected to participate actively in the discussion of the readings, and thus preview of the readings is required. Students also have to be in charge of one-two presentations on the readings. Attendance is mandatory.
